It was another fantastic season for Lanark’s adult and junior teams in the West of Scotland summer leagues.
A massive congratulations to both ladies teams after topping their divisions once again. Both dominated their respective divisions and will be promoted next year - team 1 will now play in division 4, with team 2 going up into division 5. It is a fantastic achievement and both teams will have a great chance to secure promotion again next year.
It was a tough season for the gents first team, facing a number of tricky away matches. They did well in finishing 3rd in division 3, unfortunately narrowly missing out on a 6th consecutive league promotion. It was a high standard and the boys cannot wait to give division 3 another crack next year.
The gents second team endured a tough start to the season in a tricky division but finished very strongly, winning two of their last three games. Team captain Nigel also took the opportunity to bring two youngsters into the adult’s second team. Andrew (14) and Harry (13) each won 3 of their 5 games they played. Several new members also gained great matchplay experience. The future is bright for the team.
The club also entered the Clydesdale Cup for the first time in many years. The team (mixed doubles format) performed very well, beating Stepps away before losing to eventual winners, Queens Park.
Following such a great summer season, the Club heads straight into the West of Scotland winter leagues. Building on last year’s winter league success (topping the division), we have now entered two adult teams in the Sunday afternoon leagues (each team has 3 gents and 3 ladies). The juniors have also already started strongly in the under 14s, winning their opening two matches. Good luck to all teams and thanks to all the captains for all their hard work.
